How does the number of colours on my labels effect pricing?

The number of colours in your label artwork can effect pricing in some cases - As a customer, it's handy to know whether this applies to you!

There are many factors that influence the price of your labels - With such a vast array of production options that can be utilised in label manufacturing, many of these will also depend on which printing method is used. One example is the colours used in the production of your labels.

If a traditional printing method such as flexographic, lithographic, screen, or offset are used, the number of colours used has a large impact on price. This is due to the manual nature of mixing and adding colours to the machinery used in these printing processes - Each colour must be mixed by hand, and added at seperate stages in the printing process to bring your label design to life.

If a digital printing method is used, colour has less of a bearing on price as all labels are automatically printed using CMYK full colour. So generally, in this case it isn't cheaper to reduce the colours used in your label artwork. The amount of ink used could effect pricing in some cases, for example if your labels are fully covered by printed ink or if only a portion of them is covered (e.g. text against a blank background).
