Have you ever wondered how a label manufacturer determines how many labels are supplied on each roll? We're here to dive in and give you more details.
Roll size can be defined by the roll diameter in millimetres, or more commonly, simply as the number of labels on the roll. The roll diameter measurement is critical if your labels are used in a labelling applicator machine, or a label printer. In this instance, the details of your machine should be passed onto the label manufacturer so they can determine the optimum roll size. If your labels are not used in a label applicator or printer, then roll quantity is usually the most logical way of determining roll size.
The quantity of labels that can be supplied per roll is virtually unlimited, however, it is important to note that this can have an effect on pricing - generally the smaller the label roll, the longer it takes in the finishing process (and thus, the more costly it is). Usually label manufacturers will have a standard quantity per roll which they will apply if not otherwise noted. For average sized product labels, the most common roll quantity is 1,000 labels per roll or for larger sized product labels, 500 labels per roll is a common quantity.
Often a surcharge for a smaller-than-usual label quantity/roll size is built into the pricing you would receive on a quote from your label manufacturer, however it may sometimes be listed separately as a 'small roll surcharge' or similar. If you're unsure about roll size or quantity pricing after receiving a quote, make sure to ask your manufacturer for clarification - They should be happy to provide further details!
