Something we've accomplished on a company level this past year is giving our factory a fresh look... It's certainly come a long way!
Selecting the correct roll direction for your labels is essential for successful machine application.
Roll direction refers to the way that your labels are oriented on the roll. Your labels can be supplied to you in a variety of different roll directions, so understanding which orientation will suit your label's method of application is an essential part of ordering.
Roll direction can fall under two categories - Outside Wound, and Inside Wound. Outside wound means that your labels are applied onto the outer facing side of the roll, and inside wound means that your labels are applied onto the inner facing side. Outside wound is more common, so if in doubt, we default to outside wound.
Within these two categories, there are four possible orientations, these are:
- Right Edge Leading: The labels will be dispensed from the roll with the right side showing first.
- Left Edge Leading: The labels will be dispensed from the roll with the left side showing first.
- Top Edge Leading: The labels will be dispensed from the roll with the top side showing first.
- Bottom Edge Leading: The labels will be dispensed from the roll with the bottom side showing first.
If the labels are not printed (blank) or do not have a clearly identifiable right, left, top, or bottom edge, we use different terminology:
- Wide Edge Leading: The labels will be dispensed from the roll with the widest edge showing first.
- Narrow Edge Leading: The labels will be dispensed from the roll with the narrowest side showing first.
