Label cores are the cardboard tubes at the centre of label rolls. Without them, supplying rolls would not be possible, and choosing the correct size is critical to ensuring your label can be used for it's intended purpose!
There are two measurements to consider when it comes to your label cores. The inner diameter (ID) and outer diameter (OD). The ID is the most relevant, referring to the diameter of the inside of your label core. This will determine if your label roll will be compatible with your label printer or label applicator, so it's important to ensure you specify the correct sizing to your label manufacturer. Most desktop thermal printers are designed to be used with 25mm (or 1 inch) cores, with larger industrial printers often designed to use 76mm (or 3 inch) cores. Many other printers and label applications use a size between these two
The OD measurement is also important as it refers to the diameter of your entire label roll. This is important to ensure it will fit within the confines of your printer or label applicator.
If you aren't sure what your requirements are for core size or roll diameter, don't chance it with a guess -Check with your label manufacturer for advice! A crucial element of your labels shouldn't be left up to chance, and getting it right the first time around saves you extra time and cost to rectify it later.
